Cheap Shot
maybe you wish you had missed.
A drop in my breath,
all in an instant,
you let it slip
stabbed me in the chest—
maybe you wish you had missed.
A life acted out
in accordance
with your demands,
your wishes.
A body destroyed
pieces pulled apart
dragged back again
a new design
a different layout
that I can’t bear
to look at.
Where I couldn’t reach you
from underneath a rushing current
I was drowning
you started running
find love in something less rotten—
someone not suffering.
Where I pulled my soul
up through a black hole
it had succumbed to
all on my own
I found light to hold onto.
It slipped through my fingers
but I liked the sensation
give me something that stings
a reminder
I can take it.
It sparked a fire raging
I swallowed you
I stopped trying to contain it
Twist my thoughts
tragedy into virtue
make my dreams come true
I can’t stand it
I fucking love you.
Twist the daydream
of dissolving you
into panic
a state of living
without desperately needing you.
Heat of betrayal
calloused heart of what’s left
a little girl loveless
no one needed to prove it.
You see me,
I choose you.
You seem to be listening,
I’ll die for you.
Months unfold like centuries
years compound like lifetimes
all the late nights
sunrise strike a grainy sky
birds sing
a tequila lullaby.
A union
now armored in iron
we moved past loose rocks
on a mountainside—
I saved you
a million times.
Grip me tighter
bones break
heart racing
lightning.
Wanting the pain
never knowing
where the line is.
A rich chemistry
perfectly tuned in bodies
you return everything you took from me
I breathe in
warmly, lovingly
a yearning I can’t resist
thick honey messages
I’m limitless.

Why Did We Run Toward the Horizon?
The sunset streaks of light illuminate our steps,
drawn out thousand foot shadows,
orange, yellow, purple, red,
the grass painted with its glow.
Tower
You peel back
the labels
you had pressed into me
realize
I was never quite
fitting
to be the one—
I was meant to be
a fleeting daydream

What stayed with me most was the image of pulling a soul back through darkness and still finding something to hold onto. Beneath all the intensity, I felt a quiet determination to survive. Thank you for sharing something so unguarded.
What a beautiful poem, I loved the voiceover too! Well done Lila! ❤️🥰
